Luna, a 10-year-old Jack Russell, slipped out of a rented cabin at Canyon Village on Sept. 10 after housekeeping came in, Cowboy State Daily reported. She had been a street dog for her first year, and searchers said those old habits made her hard to catch even after dozens of sightings. Katie Boucher of Norris Arc Training and Recovery Center led the search. Permits were about to expire, and winter was closing in.
On Wednesday morning Luna's family, back from California, found her inside a humane trap Boucher had set where the dog had been sleeping. She was in a small doghouse in the trap rather than tripping it the way the team expected. She weighed about 18 pounds when she got out and had lost about 10. They took her to a vet the same day.
