PALS Low-Cost Feline Vet Service in Winthrop partnered with Cat Life Maine for a one-day clinic on National Feral Cat Day. Volunteers spent the week before trapping community cats. Forty-four were spayed or neutered and ear-tipped, and every surgery was free because donors and partner groups paid for it. Those groups included Best Friends, PetCo Love, and the Maine Humane Society.
Organizers had hoped to reach 50 cats. They said weather and the cats' own habits kept them short of that number, and they still called the day a real difference for animals from around the state. Kate Downey, founder of Cat Life Maine, described community cats as easy to miss until someone starts looking for them.
