About 50 miles of trail around Sisters are being built or realigned on the Deschutes National Forest. Central Oregon Daily reported on October 7, 2026, that the STAR Project is meant for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. Volunteers with the Sisters Trail Alliance are already restoring the four-mile Brush Creek Trail in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness, the short link between the Metolius basin and the wilderness, using only hand tools. That trail burned in the 2003 B&B Fire.
The mileage is a plan underway, not a ribbon-cutting for all 50 miles. The part people can join now is the hand work.
