Makenna Sandoval and Lilly Prindle of Girl Scout Troop 16336 in Ebensburg finished a Silver Award project at Prince Gallitzin State Park in Patton. The Altoona Mirror reported on October 10, 2026, that they researched plants native to the area and picked ones that flower from spring through fall for different pollinators. They bought plants at sales run by Friends of Yellow Creek State Park and Penguin Court, raised money from sponsors to cover the cost, and built the garden. A ribbon-cutting was held Sept. 20.
For the educational part of the award, they made a flyer, coloring pages, a word search, and games the park can hand to visitors. Each girl logged more than 50 hours.
