Grand Rapids cut the ribbon on Unity Park on Oct. 14 in the Roosevelt Park neighborhood. The $2.23 million park was designed with residents so it would reflect the neighborhood's culture and history. It includes a flexible space for gatherings and vendors, inclusive play with hammock groves and seating for all ages, café seating under a tree grove, a rain garden, a larger tree canopy, and safety work such as lighting, bike paths, and bottle-fill fountains.
The Michigan Enhancement Grant and the Parks Capital Fund paid for the project. Partners included neighborhood groups, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks, and Habitat for Humanity of Kent County.
