A fire broke out Monday on the Cyprus-flagged research vessel Rem Andes about 100 nautical miles south of Grand Isle, Acadiana News First reported. A Coast Guard C-27 Spartan crew from Air Station Clearwater heard the mayday and diverted. Offshore supply vessels that came to help moved every crew member who had boarded the life rafts to Port Fourchon.

The Coast Guard said the fire was put out and that the ship was lining up commercial salvage. Other Coast Guard crews, including a helicopter from Air Station New Orleans, also assisted. The report is that the people in the rafts got to port. It does not describe injuries, and it does not say the ship itself is ready to sail.
