Win and Elaine Dermody have spent eight years picking up a half-mile of Steamboat Springs' Core Trail, from the James Brown Bridge to Bear River Skate Park. Win told Steamboat Radio he loves the town, and that the work is exercise that does something for the city. Along that stretch they have found illegal camps, wild dogs, bears, and the trash tubers leave behind.
The Veterans Center of Northwest Colorado is taking the section, with help from the local American Legion and VFW. Jenny Carey, who coordinates Adopt-A-Trail for the city, said the program covers about 6.5 miles in half-mile pieces. All 17 sections inside the city are spoken for.
