Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada and Lowe's repaired the Reno home of Floyd Payton, a disabled veteran who served more than 20 years between the Army and the Air Force. He has lived in the 1963 house for more than a decade with his son, and he said his disabilities made the upkeep too much. Crews put in a working oven to replace one that did not run, added lighting and new smoke detectors, took out a broken back deck, and built a porch.

Payton said he was unsure at first and then grateful that so many people showed up for one house. A store manager from the Sparks Lowe's called the day an honor. The same national partnership plans work on 50 homes this year. KOLO also listed the income and ownership rules for other Northern Nevada homeowners who want to apply.
