Jon Norstog, 81, was dropped off on Oct. 12 near Canyon Junction on the 500 Road on Mex Mountain to hike and look for animals, Dailyfly News reported. He did not make a 4:30 p.m. pickup and was reported missing that evening. When he realized he was not where he needed to be, he stopped for the night, lit a fire with a lighter he had packed, and wrapped up in a space blanket.
At daylight he started back toward the drop-off. A search-and-rescue dog team led by Brandy Henson found him Tuesday morning. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office said he was not injured and was taken back to his camp. The posse and the Grangeville Mountain Rescue Unit also responded.
