For the first time since 2019, Central Iowa Honor Flight took veterans from Des Moines to Washington, KCCI reported. They left to a red, white, and blue send-off and landed at Reagan National to a water-cannon salute. The itinerary included the Pentagon's 9/11 Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the World War II Memorial.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds met two uncles and a cousin on the trip. Veteran Dennis Strawn, turning 77, did not know his niece was coming. On the flight home the group got a mail call of thank-you letters. In Des Moines, a welcome they had not been told about was waiting. Army veteran Tom Baird told the station it went well past what he had expected.
