Publix Super Market Charities has given $435,000 to the Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston. ABC News 4 reported on October 8, 2026, that the money will buy two refrigerated trucks, an electric forklift, and technical upgrades for the distribution warehouse. The bank serves more than 200,000 neighbors across 10 coastal South Carolina counties.

The organization said food insecurity in its service area rose by more than 55 percent between 2023 and 2025. The count grew from more than 184,000 people to more than 204,000, about 13 percent of the population and a 20-year high. Publix Charities has given the bank more than $2.1 million since 2003, and said it is directing $25 million in 2026 to Feeding America partners and other hunger-relief groups. President and CEO Nick Osborne said the trucks are how food actually reaches neighbors.
